First look of Android 15 developer preview

Android aficionados have been treated to their first look at Android 15, in a highly anticipated presentation. Many internal improvements to improve hardware-software communication are included in the most recent version of Google’s mobile operating system.

This announcement comes at a critical juncture as Google strengthens its partnership with Samsung, a former foe turned ally. In order to compete with Apple’s well-known flawless hardware and software integration, it makes strategic sense to place an emphasis on improving the platform’s general health and encouraging greater collaboration with hardware makers.

The first developer preview of Android 15 was unveiled, and as Google works to stabilize the platform before June, public beta versions are expected to be released in early spring.

The Android Dynamic Performance Framework, a crucial element in controlling how power-hungry apps interact with the device’s power system, is the focus of a significant amount of the revisions. These improvements are designed to optimise power economy for apps that run in the background for extended periods of time, while also improving the device’s responsiveness to different demands on its GPU, CPU, and cooling components. These improvements, while not very noteworthy, are essential for optimizing overall performance.

Android 15 Developer Preview

Thanks to the Privacy Sandbox that we previously discussed, Android 15 will see a significant shift in the way that users are targeted through advertisements. People who view adverts based on their activity should be relieved that Google promises to anonymize the data.

With the Connect API, Android 15 will get new health capabilities that measure heart rate, exercise, and sleep, among other things. In addition, the updated version allows you to share individual program windows during screen recording, instead of the entire screen. Additionally, the camera receives some new integrated capabilities and settings to enhance photo brightness—a trait that is crucial for Google Pixel smartphones. Lastly, the Android 15 version may assist in controlling the cores’ heat stress and utilizing the performance cores only when absolutely necessary.

The Android 15 beta program will begin to spread out in the upcoming months, but the official release is anticipated in October 2024, when Google unveils the new Pixel 9 series.

Enhanced Privacy features

With enhanced protections against malware into app files, privacy features are also prioritized in Android 15. Additionally, the update includes the most recent version of the Privacy Sandbox, a continuous project meant to support targeted advertising while protecting user privacy in the wake of changing digital environments.

But Android 15 isn’t only about improving performance and privacy. Additionally, it adds support for the partial screen recording function, which lets users capture just certain program content instead than the full screen and was a standout feature from one of Android 14’s beta versions. Furthermore, there are plans to enhance the third-party app camera experience, which is consistent with Samsung’s prior initiatives. Notably, post-capture processing will be applied to low-light image previews in order to improve brightness, reflecting the final image output. Additionally, flash controls will be made available to app developers so they may adjust intensity levels and improve user experience.
